An Excellent Library
The community has an excellent library located at the West edge of town in a new building built in 2004. It is part of the larger Boonslick Library System and books can be ordered from this system as well as from other communities. The library is computerized for detailed book searches and Internet access. Children's reading programs are offered, as well as other reading programs. The library also boasts of a very good genealogical reference library for local area research. They can be located on the Internet at: http://brl.lib.mo.us For more information, contact:

The Senior Center
A community Senior Center is located in the Lion's Club building at the corner of Junge and Olive Streets. Here hot noon meals are offered to include deliveries for those unable to come to the Center. Programs are offered most every day ranging from music to talks on subjects of value and interest to senior citizens, and in the winter and fall, assistance in tax return preparation is offered. The Center is operated by an elected board and receives much of its financial support from the community. Books and exercise equipment are also available at the center. Cole Camp City Pound
![]()
As homeless or lost pets are found, they are provided with a caring place until they can be placed in a permanent, caring home - either their owner's home (if lost), or adopted by caring persons. The pound is operated by staff of the Cole Camp City, with support and help from the 7 Bells Sanctuary in the Cole Camp Community.
Our Cole Camp City Pound serves a population of approximately 1,028 residents and Cole Camp has a contract to also serve Lincoln, population of approximately 1,026 residents. There are two rural pounds, 2 dog capacity each.
The pounds are supported with several bales of straw yearly for the pound dog houses from the Cole Camp Steam & Antique Tractor Club. Local citizens & members of Whiteman Air Force Base constructed a large chain link exercise area to provide for daily exercise of impounded dogs.
The $50 Adoption fee on pound dogs includes spay/neuter & Rabies, as required, performed by a local vet.
Impounded dogs are listed in the Cole Camp Courier and Lincoln New Era newspapers. If not claimed by the owner they are available for adoption. They are listed on the internet, www.7bellssanctuary.petfinder.com with a special profile to designate pound dogs.
Adopted pets are spayed/neutered PRIOR to adoption, then placed with the new owner. Our goal is to have all pets altered PRIOR to leaving the pound.
"Pennies for Pooches" collection points at area businesses help improve life for the impounded dogs by providing funds to assist with spay, neuter, vaccinations, worming, chew bones, and dog food. As of Dec. 2008 collection points are The Cole Camp Pharmacy, The Gilded Lily, Maxwell's Woodcarving, Heimsoth Brothers Feed, Maple Street Cafe, and Rosebud Gifts & Fabric. 2009 saw the addition of Calgaro's Pizza, Handel Haus, The Red Baron, and Prairie Mercantile.
Grant funds, when received, are used only to spay & neuter to help reduce over population.
In June 2004 Mayor R.E. Harris helped further adoptions of pound dogs by having the pets listed on a local rescue site, www.7bellssanctuary.petfinder.com. Since that time our little pound has managed to operate without killing any dogs.
